Safety, Non-Escalation/De-Escalation Techniques,
& Trauma Informed Care

This class is Session 1 of the Academy’s Behavior Support training program, but
can be taken as a stand-alone training. This session explores:
· Safe and healthy relationships, and the four domains of safety: physical, psychological, social and moral
· Tips for de-escalation, the three de-escalation 'checks' and the necessity of dealing with both facts and feelings to help a person resolve their escalation
· The importance of debriefing following an escalation will be discussed including tips for doing so effectively
· Trauma and resilience, a trauma informed approach to supporting others
· Trauma symptoms, the Hand Brain, factors that influence resiliency
· The healing power of healthy relationships, belonging, voice, choice and control
Ohio Social Work and Ohio DODD Continuing Education approved for 7 hours.
