Upcoming Trainings: "Dementia Friends" and "Pneumonia"
Next week! Supporting Friends and Family With Dementia
Monday, November 1, 2021 (11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.)

Dementia Friends is a global movement that is changing the way people think, act, and talk about dementia. Developed by the Alzheimer’s Society in the United Kingdom, the Dementia Friends initiative is underway in Ohio and across the United States. By helping everyone in a community understand what dementia is and how it affects families, each of us can make a difference for people touched by dementia.

This free one-hour session is a discussion led by a Dementia Friends Champion. You’ll learn what dementia is, what it may be like to live with the disease, and some tips for communicating with people living with dementia. Everyone who attends is asked to turn their new understanding of dementia into a practical action that can help someone living in your community. The action can be as big or as small as you choose—every action counts!

Note: This is a remote session that will take place via Zoom. Meeting details will be emailed directly to registrants. All participants must register independently and attend the session live in order to be marked present and receive applicable CPDUs.

Next Week! Health: Choking and Pneumonia
Thursday, November 4, 2021 (11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.)

People with developmental disabilities are more likely to have conditions that make it difficult to swallow and increase their risk of chronic pneumonia. In this session led by Dr. Susan Abend of the Right Care Now Project, we will cover the risk factors of these conditions for people with various developmental disabilities. The discussion will also cover the ways in which DD support staff can prevent choking, recognize pneumonia, and mitigate the risks for both.

Note: This is a remote session that will take place via Zoom. Meeting details will be emailed directly to registrants. All participants must register independently and attend the session live in order to be marked present and receive applicable CPDUs.
