Down Syndrome Awareness Month

Down Syndrome Awareness Month

Sullivan Grimm of Worthington appeared in the bright lights of New York City as part of the annual National Down Syndrome Society Times Square Video presentation in September, which featured nearly 500 images of individuals with Down syndrome from across the country.

October has been recognized as Down Syndrome Awareness Month since the 1980s. It is a time to celebrate people with Down syndrome, raise public awareness about the condition, and advocate for the acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome.

During Down Syndrome Awareness Month, OOD celebrates the incredible potential of Ohioans with Down syndrome. OOD’s Vocational Rehabilitation program plays a vital role in empowering these individuals to achieve their employment goals and lead fulfilling lives. Through specialized training, support, and guidance, OOD helps equip individuals with Down syndrome with the skills and confidence to pursue meaningful employment and contribute to their communities.
