Staying Hydrated with Accessible Water Stations

Everyone deserves access to clean water when out in the community. Providing accessible drinking fountains, water coolers, and bottle fillers helps people stay hydrated and comfortably participate in events for as long as they’d like.

To ensure accessibility:

  • Location matters – Place water stations near accessible entrances and on all building levels.
  • Space and clearance – Allow room for people to approach from the front or side, with proper knee and toe clearance.
  • User-friendly controls – Controls should be easy to reach and use with one hand, requiring minimal force. Motion-activated options are ideal.
  • Design for all heights – Include a mix of sitting and standing-height units.

Our Accessible Ohio Drinking Fountains, Water Coolers, and Bottle Fillers resource offers best practices and ADA guidelines for making hydration inclusive of individuals with disabilities.
