Disability Pride Month 2025: “We Belong Here, and We’re Here to Stay”

Happy Disability Pride Month! What began as a day in Boston commemorating the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act has grown into a month of celebrating the history, experiences, and achievements of the disability community nationwide.
Designating a month to honor the disability community empowers people with disabilities to be proud of who they are and what they can accomplish given the chance. The 2025 theme for Disability Pride Month, We Belong Here, and We're Here to Stay, emphasizes the importance of disability inclusion and equal rights for people with disabilities.
If you want to support Ohioans with disabilities this July, here are a few ideas:
- Share your story. If you or your loved ones have benefited from OOD services, consider sharing your experiences so others can see what’s possible. You can find us on social media: @OhioOOD.
- Practice disability etiquette. Familiarize yourself with disability etiquette. By prioritizing respectful interactions with people with disabilities, you demonstrate a personal commitment to accessibility and inclusion in your community.
- Immerse yourself. Read books, watch movies, view art, and listen to music by artists with disabilities.
- Get involved. Participate in a Disability Pride Month event near you. Learn about issues affecting the disability community. Know the rights of people with disabilities. Advocate for equal opportunities and access.
- Hire individuals with disabilities. When given the opportunity, people with disabilities have proven to be dedicated, conscientious, and highly productive workers. Let OOD assist you in recruiting and onboarding qualified candidates.
